There are contractors who illegally pay their workers as independent contractors, which can give them a labor cost advantage. We warn our customers to be skeptical of the low bid. When contractors pay their workers as independent contractors:
• The Social Security Fund, Medicare Fund and the State is robbed of revenue
• The worker has no Social Security benefits accruing
• The worker is not covered by the contractors Workers Compensation & Liability policies
• Therefore, the liability for the customer is then wide open
• The employees do have more cash in hand, but they have no benefits and no insurance
We remain committed to complying with all state and federal employment regulations by requiring all applicants to complete an application and have an interview with a manager or supervisor. All employees must complete tax forms to include an I-9 form and provide proper documentation. All workers are paid through our payroll, meaning that they pay their taxes and we pay our portion of their taxes. All employees must complete a drug screen and undergo a criminal background check, which is another way of verifying the identification information they provided.
